The French are calling it quits on models too thin to be healthy. It looks like France’s government are looking to pass a law against models who are far too thin and unhealthy looking. This law could fashion houses and agents doing jail time for taking them on as models.
Other countries such as Israel and Italy have already adopted a more health conscious approach who have all adopted laws against models too thin. The Health Minister Marisol Touraine told BFM TV on Monday that it is important for models to eat right and healthy, to take care of themselves which is also important to the young people who admire their beauty. Models would have medical papers to show their BMI of at least 18, that’s about 55kg for someone say around 5ft7 before they are hired, an for a few weeks after.
What do you make of this? Is this unfair on models who are naturally very thin? Do you think this is needed to ensure the media see healthy as beautiful? Or are we yet again defining what is beauty?
